The Alt Wedding Chronicles
CHAPTER TWO - KIMMI & SAM
As an alternative wedding photographer, I’m always excited to collaborate with couples who pour their personalities into every detail of their big day. I’ve decided to share the planning processes of my amazing couples to help you with ideas in case you’re planning your own celebration! Chapter Two is an autumnal pagan dream as we look into the special details from Kimmi & Sam’s day.
Some weddings are more than just a day – they’re full-blown portals into a world the couple has dreamed of for years. Kimmi & Sam’s wedding was exactly that. A celebration soaked in personal meaning, folklore, and fiery creative spirit – a union of two alternative souls who live and breathe artistry, storytelling, and all things otherworldly.
Held at the atmospheric Blakelands Country House, the venue offered the perfect mix of stately elegance and earthy charm. As guests wandered through the grounds, they were greeted by rich hues of forest green, muted beige tones, and accents of bone white – a colour palette pulled straight from ancient forests and misty folklore. The setting was like a scene from Alice and Wonderland and we had so much fun playing in the grounds setting off smoke grenades to create our own fairy tale.
From the moment I arrived, I knew this was going to be something special. The ceremony honoured Norse and Pagan tradition, with handfasting rituals, rune-blessed tokens, and heartfelt vows spoken under the open sky. Animal skulls and antlers adorned the altar space, not in a decorative way, but as sacred symbols of the natural world, death, rebirth, and strength. Every object had meaning. Every gesture was intentional.
Sam was a modern day warrior – adorned with handcrafted details and a drinking horn at his hip. Kimmi was a vision of ethereal beauty – her look was soft but powerful, like a woodland queen stepping out of a Grimm fairy tale. Her bouquet was wild and untamed, filled with texture and movement, echoing the untethered spirit of the day.
One of my favourite moments was the cake cutting – forget dainty knives. These two wielded axes. Yes, actual axes, and it was as badass as it sounds. Guests raised their horns (literally) in cheer, and laughter echoed through the hall like an ancient feast come back to life. The reception felt like a gathering of kindred spirits. Candles flickered, drinks flowed, and stories were shared late into the night.
As a photographer who lives for the untraditional, the bold, the weird and wonderful – this was a dream to capture. Every frame told a story, every shadow held a whisper of something ancient, and every smile was lit with wild joy. I can’t forget that I had my wonderful niece Emily to assist and my lovely mum drove us down as this was my 4th wedding in a row and I needed the extra kip - a real team effort!
