Tips for Planning an Alt Summer Wedding - Part 2
I’ve been a photographer in the alt wedding scene for the last decade, so I’d like to believe that I have some pearls of wisdom to share with you about planning a summer wedding! Summer is the most popular season for weddings (aside from October 🎃) for the warm weather and longer days BUT there are more challenges when you’re going goth!
Whether you are just starting the planning process for your wedding or you’re almost at the finishing line with little details, hopefully these tips and tricks will help you to make the day run smoothly! Also, booking an engagement shoot ahead of the big day can help you to practice being the centre of attention, having fun with poses and it gives your wedding photographer an idea of what you want for the big day and final images.
UK Weather can be unpredictable, and your summer wedding might face the challenges of a sudden downpour or intense sunshine. Here are some tips to ensure your wedding photos turn out beautifully, no matter what Mother Nature has in store.
Embrace the Rain
Romantic Shots: Rain can create a romantic and intimate atmosphere. Shots of the couple under an umbrella or a gentle drizzle can be magical.
Reflections: Look for puddles and wet surfaces that can reflect the surroundings and add a unique dimension to your photos.
Umbrellas: Colorful or clear umbrellas can be stylish accessories that protect you from the rain and add a fun element to your photos.
Rain Boots: Matching rain boots for the bridal party can add a playful touch and keep everyone’s feet dry.
Backup Spots: Scout for indoor locations at your venue or nearby where you can take some beautiful photos if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Natural Light: Look for rooms with large windows that let in natural light for softer, more flattering indoor shots.
Hotter than Hell
Sunglasses: I cannot emphasise how much I love sunglasses! Not only do they help you to hide a little if you’re feeling a bit shy to start with, but they are a great prop addition to your look and for the guests too.
Golden Hour: Schedule portrait sessions during the golden hour, shortly after sunrise or before sunset, when the light is soft and golden.
Midday Shade: If photos need to be taken at midday, we can find shaded areas to avoid harsh, direct sunlight.
Using the Scenery: Utilising shade from trees and buildings to provide a cooler environment and softer light for photos.
Bring your own Shade: Stylish parasols or wide-brimmed hats can offer shade and add a vintage or whimsical touch to your pictures.
Keep it Natural: Relax and enjoy the moment to capture genuine smiles and expressions, even if the sun is bright.
Relax and Enjoy
Finally, remember that even detailed plans can have hiccups. I’m on hand to be flexible and to make you laugh!
Backup Plans: Have a plan B for weather, transportation, and other potential issues.
Relax: Take time to enjoy the day and celebrate with your loved ones. After all, the most important part of your wedding is the commitment you're making to each other!
