What happens on your wedding day
COUPLE PHOTOS
Your wedding day is about you two. Not endless posing, awkward smiling, or being dragged away from your guests for hours like you’re on some early 2000s reality TV makeover montage.
I like to capture your couple photos naturally throughout the day, dipping in and out when it feels right for you both. That means we can work with the weather, the light, your energy levels, and whatever chaos or magic the day decides to throw at us.
Whether it’s a quiet five minutes together after the ceremony, sneaking out at golden hour, or embracing dramatic rain like the main characters you are, we’ll create photos that feel genuinely you.
I absolutely love incorporating personal elements into your portraits too. Cloaks? Smoke bombs? Fairy-core woodland vibes? Emo romance in the rain? A stop at your favourite pub? I am so here for it.
And if you’ve seen inspiration photos or have ideas you’d love to try, send them my way! Collaborating together helps me create imagery that reflects your personalities and your story, rather than stiff copy-and-paste wedding photos.
GROUP PHOTOS
Group photos don’t have to feel stressful or military-level organised. I promise nobody’s getting shouted at like we’re in boot camp.
Before the wedding, we’ll chat through the important family groupings and the people who matter most to you. This helps everything run smoothly on the day and keeps things relaxed, efficient, and easy for everyone involved.
I always try to keep group photos as quick and painless as possible so you can get back to celebrating, hugging your favourite humans, and living your best “you bow to no one” moment.
The most important thing for me is making sure everyone feels comfortable, included, and looked after whilst still capturing those meaningful photographs you’ll treasure for years.
MY WEDDING DAY ITINERARY
When it comes to alternative wedding photography, preparation is everything. I create a detailed wedding day itinerary so I know exactly where I need to be throughout the day and never miss those meaningful little moments.
Having a timeline planned out helps your day run smoothly whilst still leaving plenty of room for spontaneity, silliness, and those beautifully unplanned moments that make your wedding uniquely yours.
Your itinerary includes all the important moments, key timings, group photo plans, and any special details you want captured. I’ll also keep note of inspiration images, creative ideas, and personal touches that reflect your personalities and your wedding aesthetic — whether that’s gothic wedding photography, whimsical fantasy vibes, colourful alternative styling, or full-on rock and roll romance.
Think of it as our battle plan before heading into the adventure. Very Fellowship of the Ring, just with less orcs and more confetti.
GENERAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY COVERAGE
One of the biggest worries couples have are “will our important moments be captured”.
The good news is… You genuinely don’t need to stress about that.
As an experienced alternative wedding photographer, I’m constantly watching for moments unfolding naturally throughout the day. The big emotional moments, the quiet in-between moments, and all the chaos and joy in the middle.
Here’s a rough idea of the typical full day wedding photography coverage you can expect:
MORNING PREP
The morning atmosphere is always full of excitement, nerves, laughter, and usually someone asking where their shoes have disappeared to.
Coverage typically includes:
Candid getting ready moments
Wedding dresses and alternative bridal fashion
Suits and accessories
Shoes, jewellery, and rings
Bouquets and floral details
Buttonholes and finishing touches
Emotional moments with family and friends
These photographs help tell the full story of your wedding day from the very beginning.
CEREMONY COVERAGE
Your ceremony is packed with raw emotion and meaningful reactions, and I’ll be there capturing it all as naturally as possible.
This often includes:
Guests arriving
Wedding party entrances
Walking down the aisle
Reactions from your partner and guests
Wide ceremony photographs
Ring exchange
First kiss
Signing the register
Walking back down the aisle as newlyweds
Whether you’re planning a gothic wedding ceremony, an outdoor woodland handfasting, or a non-traditional alternative wedding celebration, my focus is always on documenting genuine emotion over stiff posing.
VENUE DETAILS & RECEPTION
You’ve spent months planning all those personal touches, so I make sure they’re documented properly before the celebrations fully begin.
This includes:
Exterior and interior venue photographs
Alternative wedding décor
Seating plans and stationery
Guest book moments
Table styling and candles
Wedding cake details
Favours and personal touches
Couple entrance
Speeches and reactions
I love capturing the atmosphere of your venue because it helps transport you straight back into the feeling of the day every time you look through your gallery.
EVENING CELEBRATIONS
Once the formalities are done, this is usually where the chaos begins — and honestly, some of the best candid wedding photos happen here.
Evening coverage often includes:
Cake cutting
First dance
Live bands or DJs
Dance floor moments
Guests partying
Big emotional hugs
Terrible but iconic dance moves
These are the moments where everyone relaxes, lets loose, and fully celebrates with you both.
FIRST DANCE & CAKE CUT
Your cake cut and first dance traditionally happen together, usually around 8–9pm depending on your timeline.
We’ll gather your guests around for the cake cutting first before moving you both onto the dance floor for your first dance as a married couple.
Once I’ve captured those key first dance photographs, I often invite your guests to join you on the dance floor. These images are always full of energy, emotion, and absolute carnage in the best possible way.
Of course, nothing about your wedding has to be traditional if you don’t want it to be. If a first dance feels awkward or not your vibe, we can absolutely do things differently. Your wedding photography experience should reflect you, not a checklist of traditions.
CONFETTI, BUBBLES & SMOKE BOMBS
If you want to add extra atmosphere, movement, and drama into your alternative wedding photos, these are some of my favourite ways to do it.
Confetti is brilliant for getting your guests involved and creating joyful, energetic photographs.
It works especially well:
Walking back down the aisle
During big group photos
Creating a confetti tunnel
Outdoor celebration shots
The messier and more chaotic, the better honestly.
Bubbles create a soft, whimsical, fairy-tale feel in photographs and work beautifully for couples who want something playful and romantic.
They’re especially lovely:
Outside the ceremony
During golden hour couple portraits
On the dance floor
For evening wedding photography
Perfect for adding a little magic without anyone getting covered head-to-toe in confetti.
Smoke grenades are incredible if you love bold, dramatic alternative wedding photography.
Whether you want colourful chaos, moody gothic portraits, festival wedding vibes, or cinematic fantasy-inspired images, smoke can completely transform your photographs.
They work especially well for:
Wedding party photos
Alternative couple portraits
Gothic wedding photography
Creative evening portraits
Dramatic outdoor wedding shots
And honestly? They make everyone feel like they’re starring in their own emo album cover from 2004. Which is never a bad thing.
At the end of it all, my goal is simple — to create bold, personality-filled wedding photographs that feel like your story, not somebody else’s Pinterest board.
